A Touching Story About Caring
Tuesday, April 13th, 2010Before I get started I just wanted to say I heard this story I’m about to tell you, yesterday and honestly I sat on in for a day and wasn’t sure if I should share it on here or not… After a day to think about it and the message that comes with it I have to!!
(If you have a heart this story might bother you and I’m sorry)
An Iraq War Vet
The story goes like this…(if I get some of it wrong and you know the details please correct me I’m going on my memory from what I heard)
And YES as far as I know This IS a TRUE STORY!!!
A young soldier returning home from Iraq made a call home to speak with his father. He informed his father that he was coming home and couldn’t wait to see him and his mother. They talked on the phone for a while then finally the soldier told his dad that he was wanting to bring a friend back with him that had grown to be a brother figure to him because his friend didn’t believe his family would be able to handle the fact of what happened in Iraq. His friend had lost both legs in the war and also had a deformed arm. His father paused and replied to him that him and his mother were both under a lot of stress and didn’t think it would be a good idea because he didn’t know if they could handle the stress of having a disabled war vet like that under their roof.
They closed the conversation and ending in I Love You they got off the phone…
A week had gone by and the parents had not heard from their son since that last phone call a week earlier.
The phone rang and their hearts sank…
It was the police department… Their son had committed suicide and they needed them to come down to the morgue and identify the body.
As hard as it was for them to confirm that the body they looked at was their sons, the fact that he had committed suicide wasn’t the most troubling thought….
…
He laid in the morgue a U.S. Soldier… A Disabled American Veteran with no legs and a deformed arm…
For it wasn’t a “friend” he was wanting to bring home…It was himself.
I know this is a depressing story for it to be on Stay Boosted but I felt I needed to share it in order to open your mind and heart!!!
We, as Americans, are so focused on our own well being that we do not understand the importance of caring for others…even people we do not know. Think about this story the next time a stranger asks you for help. What may seem like something you can say no to, may be something that changes that persons life.
Care!
Its only a four letter word but it means so much more than the size of the word itself!
Caring, even for strangers, is something we all can do a little bit more. Please understand the importance of this post and help spread the word of caring!!!
